About the Author
Rex Canyon is a seasoned journalist with a career spanning decades in the fast-paced world of newspapers. A lifelong lover of the myths and legends of the Old West, Canyon's debut novel, Blood on the Cards , portrays rugged landscapes, larger-than-life characters, and a time when men settled their own affairs.
Canyon draws inspiration from the sweeping vistas of John Ford's classic Westerns, particularly those set against the dramatic backdrop of Monument Valley. These cinematic masterpieces sparked a fascination with the untamed spirit of the frontier, fueling passion for storytelling steeped in grit, danger and retribution.
A former award-winning journalist in print journalism, his career began in restaurant manager at age 18, but his passion for sports and sports history drew him into journalism.
Wanting to be the next Vin Scully, Canyon attended the University of Oklahoma, but soon transitioned into print, where he built a distinguished career in news.
Beyond journalism, Canyon is a former professional musician on piano and viola, and co-wrote the music and lyrics for an Easter musical. His passion for history—particularly the Great War and the Second World War – fueled his research into the aircrafts his father flew during the European campaign.
A dedicated reader of biographies and historical events, he is an avid reader of presidential history and a student of Winston Churchill's leadership and writings.
Now, Canyon brings his love of history, storytelling, and reflection to the world of literary fiction, exploring themes of memory, legacy, and the passage of time in his writing.
His next novel, Eternal Regret: A Memoir, a Boy, and a Man's Quest for His Legacy, likely will be released in 2026.
